Football. "We're going to try to move forward together": Habib Beye to remain as Rennes coach

Under pressure due to Stade Rennais' poor results, Habib Beye will still be on the bench for the Breton club on Sunday for the home game against Strasbourg.

Despite Rennes' very poor run of form, once again unable to secure a win in Toulouse (2-2) on Wednesday, Habib Beye is currently still in his position as coach.

"We will try to move forward together," explained the president of the Breton club, Arnaud Pouille, to the Ligue 1+ microphone after the match, before being specifically asked about whether or not his coach would stay: "Yes" (he is staying, editor's note), he assured.

His presence on the bench on Sunday (3 p.m.) at Roazhon Park for the match against Strasbourg seemed more threatened than ever, as his men had just conceded a 2-2 draw after leading 2-0 in the 55th minute , and his dismissal had been considered on Monday, after a 2-1 defeat against Nice.

After being quickly pegged back to 2-2 by Toulouse, Rennes endured a tense finish without succumbing, despite Beye's decision to leave out two key players, Seko Fofana and Ludovic Blas, for the trip. "It was a decision linked to the team's dynamics and what we're experiencing in training... when you're not at 100% in training, choices have to be made," Beye explained to the league's broadcaster.

“The big match is Strasbourg, we’re going to prepare for it, it’s going to be a pretty crazy week, (...) the president spoke to the players, it was a positive message,” the coach added. “We just told the group” that Beye is staying, Pouille confirmed, before adding: “We know we need results, we need to move forward, there was some substance to our performance tonight, a bit of fragility.”
